Traditional clad plates were produced by roll-cladding, explosive-cladding andcast-cladding etc.. This research tries to adopt a new method to produce clad plate, andtries to do some research on two different kinds of aluminum alloys with a verticaltwin-roll cast cladding method, which gives a new idea to the production of clad plates.According to the design of cladding experiments and the conditions of twin roll castingmachine, two melting furnaces and a tundish with baffle, guide plate and nozzle weredesigned to meet the requirements of experiments. Combining with the hydraulicsystem, driving system, cooling water system, and automatic control system of thetwin-roll casting machine, series of experiments were carried out to check thefeasibility of the designed equipments and the twin-roll cast cladding process.Two aluminum alloys7050and6063were selected as the research object in thispaper.4mm thick aluminum alloy twin-roll cast cladding sheets of6063and7050were fabricated at the casting conditions of casting speed6rpm, casting temperature690℃(6063) and670℃(7050) and casting separating force15000N. Themicrostructure of as-cast and annealed cladding plate were observed by OM(OpticalMicroscopy) and SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy). And the mechanical propertieswere tested by tensile and hardness tests. The experimental results show that theinfluence factors of the casting process including casting speed, casting temperature,cooling water flow and two roll pressure to the clad plate surface. The experimentprocess combing with rapid solidification and deformation, it can improve productionefficiency, reduce the production cost, save energy, in improving the quality of cladplate has great potential.Through the preliminary study of the aluminium alloy clad plate, it can verify thatthe feasibility of the method of double stream clad roll-casting in fabricating the cladmaterial, also it can lay the foundation to laboratory equipment debugging in the cladprocess. For the next step, complete the clad experiments and get better quality plateare the two main tasks.
