Being a general thermoplastic plastics, polypropylene (PP) is widely used in manyindustries for its rich source and low price. However, it also has disadvantages, such as lowcrystallization rate, long molding cycle. More and more researchers pay much attention todevelop PP nucleation agent.Bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid salt and its derivatives are new types ofpolypropylene nucleating agent, which may have good application prospect and offerimportant economic and social benefits. In this paper, the main research content is divided into the following three aspects:(1) Norbornene dicarboxylic anhydride was synthesis by cyclopentadiene and maleicanhydride through the Diels-Alder addition reaction. The optimum process condition wasdetermined by investigating the kind of solvents, solvent dosage, material molar ratio, reaction time and so on. Norbornene dicarboxylic anhydride yield above95%.(2) By hydrolysis neutralization, the atmospheric catalytic hydrogenation, thenorbornene anhydride was converted to bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid alkalimetal salt, The optimum process condition was determined by investigating the catalyst type, catalyst dosage, material molar ratio, reaction temperature and so on, and the effects of thecatalyst recycle number. Alkali metal salt yield above90%.Bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid alkali earth metal salt was prepared by ionexchange using bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid alkali metal salt andcorresponding alkaline earth metal chloride as raw materials in water solution. Alkaline earthmetal salt was separated and purified accroding to the solubility difference betweeen the alkalimetal salt and alkali earth metal salt in water solution. Alkaline earth metal salt yield above95%.(3) By hydrolysis neutralization, the atmospheric catalytic hydrogenation, thenorbornene anhydride was converted to bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acidmonoester, The optimum process condition was determined by investigating the catalyst type, catalystdosage, material molar ratio, reaction temperature and so on, and the effects of the catalystrecycle number. Monoester yield above90%.In the paper, the optimum condition of above compounds were decided and they werecharacterized by the melting point test, infrared spectrum analysis, element analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance analysis.
