Along with the rapid development of economy, as one of China’s most importantenergy resources, the demand of coal is increased day by day. With the coal miningcontinues to enlarge and deepen, the mine safety monitoring system can not meet theactual needs. There are several outstanding problems in current Coal Mine SafetyMonitoring:(1) Communication failure occurs in some situation;(2) Data collecting becomes more and more difficult during mining;(3) Information transmission distance can’t be assured;(4) Personnel location information can’t be got in time;(5) The positioning accuracy is low.All these problems will influence the reliability of the mine safety monitoringsystem. So, it is important that a intelligent mine safety monitoring system can bedeveloped and applied, which can ensure quick data acquisition, high personnelpositioning accuracy, data transmission reliability, and friendly to users.In response to these problems, the paper presents an intelligent Coal Mine SafetyMonitoring System which based on coal mine monitoring and control applications. Itis mainly composed by the personnel positioning sub-module, data acquisitionsub-module and substations node transmission sub-module which based on CAN bus.Based on the depth study of traditional positioning algorithms, a weight positioningalgorithm is proposed which based on the received signal strength, and the algorithmcan realize the precise positioning of the personnel; through the depth study of thewireless communication module, realized the communication between two nodes, andon this basis, the wireless router network among identification card, wireless basestations and wired base station is adopted. By studying mine sensors, the sensor dataautomatic collection with time-sharing and high-speed is realized; for failedcommunication in underground, designing the CAN/Ethernet conversion gateway torealize the data high-speed transmission and conversion. The innovative works of thispaper include:(1) The low power consumption solution in wireless transmitting and wirelessreceiving modules is designed, and then it is realized;(2) Design and Implementation of the function of identification card;(3) The wireless network communication routes can be rearranged automatically with high efficiency in different situations;(4) Personnel positioning weights algorithm based on signal strength is adopted;(5) The CAN/Ethernet gateway is designed.With all the above innovative designs, the new intelligent mine safety monitoringsystem has been successfully applied in a medium-size coal mine in ShanXi, whichhas proved that the system can realize the performances needed in the mine safetymonitoring system.
