Ketones are a class of very important organic compounds. Carbonyl group widely exists in the molecular structure of various natural products. Thus, the development of efficient protocol to synthesize acetones is highly desired and of great importance for organic synthesis. Research in this field is an important part of synthetic methodology. My research is mainly focused on the Pd(0)-catalyzed hydration reaction of alkynes in the presence of hydrochloric acid, which prevents a new method to produce acetones. My research includes the following sections,Part I:After extensively reviewed the literatures, the main idea and detail experimental program were proposed.Part II:The optimization of the Pd(0)-catalyzed hydration reaction of alkynes in the presence of hydrochloric acid was carried out carefully. The solvent effect, temperature effect, amount of hydrochloric acid, different catalysts, and amount of catalyst were examined step by step, after which the optimized reaction conditions were finalized.Part III:The substrates scope with a series of alkynes was studied. Electron, steric, and substituent effect were examined. And the law was summed up.Part IV:The possible mechanism was discussed based on the results.A new synthetic method of aryl methyl acetone derivatives was developed during this research, which proceeds via the hydration reaction of terminal aryl alkynes under the catalysis of palladium(0) in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The mechanism of this reaction is different from any other literature reported cases.
