Study On The Application Of Rococo Furniture Style In Rosewood Furniture

Rosewood furniture is fond by customers as for its precious material, exquisiteworkmanship and elegant quality of Chinese culture. Developing the rosewood furniture andimproving the rosewood furniture culture is the most important problem in the industry. As theworld develops more and more diversity, furniture design tends to be more colorful. Thecombination of Chinese and Western is a trend in the developing of Chinese rosewood furniture.How to design a kind of rosewood furniture that both have the western characteristic and inaccordance with Chinese aesthetics is an important subject that conforms to contemporary needsand practical significance.This paper chooses the style of Rocco furniture as an example, researching the applicationof Rococo furniture style in rosewood furniture. Firstly it generalizes the types and thecharacteristic and rule of various style of Rococo furniture. Then depending on the history dates,it discusses the relationship between Rococo style and Chinoiserie. Secondly it discusses theinfluences of Rococo to Cantonese-style furniture and Shanghai-style furniture in the history.Then it analyzes the application of Rococo in the modern rosewood furniture. At last, it proposesa creative way to combine Rococo and rosewood furniture by changing form、function、craftworkand decoration. We get the following conclusions below.(1)The influence of Rococo in the Cantonese-style furniture reflected on thatCantonese-style furniture used the curve form to model the form and used Chinese pattern morethan western pattern in decorative ornament. In Shanghai-style furniture, Rococo integrated theChinese element more thorough. And much furniture used the Rococo form and decorativepattern in Chinese workmanship.(2)According to the application of Rococo furniture shape in modern rosewood furniture, itcan be divided into two factions:“hybrid” and “reformist”. No matter the different of forms,they all use the traditional furniture craft and modern technology. On the other hand, they changethe decoration patterns applying to the furniture.(3)If rosewood furniture wants to form their own Rococo style, they must be based onChinese traditional furniture spirit as the root, tenon-and-mortise structure and caving as the basis.At the same time, it must absorb the basic characteristic of Rococo, and apply for the modern life.Namely, the final purpose is to reach that: the unity of artistic and comfortable, the unity ofstructure and material, the unity of style and process.(4) Finally, in inspiration for the Rococo shapes and decorative patterns, in foundation of thestructure and process of rosewood furniture, the waiter designs a set of bedroom furniture. By thedesign practice, we can know that, the opinion of this paper has theoretical value and establishesthe foundation for the combination of Chinese and Western.
