Process selection and optimization of400kt/a coal to methanol project for ErdosGuo Tai Chemical Co.Ltd was explored in this work to get the best process fromtechnical/economical/feasibility view.Based on the foundation engineering design, original process route is as below:air compressor and supercharger were run by power with35t/h start-up boiler; gasifierwas Qinghua gasifier that is non-slag and slag classification gasification process;sulfur recovery is Claus sulfur recovery technique.After several times discussion and negotiation, hidden dangers were found in aircompressor and it will run uneconomical. Original gasifier can not meet the capacityrequirement. What’s more, general Claus sulfur recovery technique can not reach theenvironmental standard. Therefore, steam-driven air compressor is used with3×160t/h(9.8Mpa、540℃)boilers and1×50MW generator set, together with synthesiscompressor and propylene compressor. Air cooling is applied to air separationcondenser, generator condenser, synthesis compressor condenser and propylenecompressor condenser. Opposed multi nozzle coal gasifier developed by South ChinaUniversity of Technology is used in the new process. Super Claus sulfur recoverytechnique is used. Oxygen capacity of air separation has changed from55000Nm~3/hto60000Nm~3/h.
