Pincer complex are widely used in many fields. Compared to the [P、C、P] and[S、C、S] analogues,[N、C、N] pincers have attracted much attention in recent years.In this paper, we have synthesized the ligands,4,6dimethyl1,3bis(N arylimino)benzenes from the staring material m xylene after severaltransformations. Treatment of these ligands with palladium acetate (Ⅱ) in anhydrousacetic acid and followed by lithium chloride resulted in the corresponding[N、C、N]palladium (Ⅱ) pincer, i.e.,3,5dimethyl2,6bis(N arylimino)isophthalaldimin2ylpalladium(Ⅱ) chloride in moderate yields. In addition, such reaction condition wasalso suitable for5nitro and5tert butyl bisimines ligands. All of these ligands andtheir corresponding pincers were fully characterized by elemental analysis, IR andNMR.The catalytic efficiency of3,5dimethyl2,6bis(imino)isophthalaldimin2ylpalladium(Ⅱ) chloride on the Suzuki and Heck reactions were also examined. Theexperimental results demonstrated that these palladium compounds are excellentcatalysts for Suzuki coupling reaction, but also can obtain good yield for Heckcoupling reaction.
