The purpose of this paper is to solve some new issues in use and new request ofcustomer for furniture from the standpoint of materials choice and configuration analysis,and then explore the developing direction for future furniture. The design and constructionof furniture are realized by materials manipulation, and thus the fundamental way toimprove furniture is materials innovation. From the law of history, the most typical andproud artifice for mankind is the configuration living environment. The main part of livingenvironment is building whose dimensional concept is enclosing and organization, andthis concept is closely entangled with that of furniture. In this paper, configures andmaterials for furniture and buildings were comparatively analyzed to predict the futuretrends for materials choice and configuration design.Firstly, this paper consists of five parts. Chapter one is a brief introduction on thedevelopment of furniture market from home and abroad, and summaries the issues fromcurrent living environment. The paper also collects the demand of future furniture fromusers. Base on the summarize of those demand, the thesis of materials choice and furnitureconfiguration for future furniture are draw forth here.Secondly, the historical development and change of the configuration of furniture aswell as comparative analysis of that for furniture and buildings were presented in secondpart to summarize the inner connection of main materials, building style, furniture styleand configuration. And then, The third Chapter mainly investigate some of the propertiesand configuration of high-tech materials for future furniture, based on the precondition torealize the new demand for furniture from mankind.The final and core part of this paper is Chapter four and five which mainly focus onthe design trend for future furniture from materials properties and configuration as well asarchitecture style. The feasibility for mankind’s demand for self-cleaning, ultra-light,micro-deformation, and wall mode furniture are demonstrated and proved by some of myactually design.Based on the precondition to satisfy the most demand of mankind, its research valueare proved by the introduction of some actual cases.
