GFRP/wood composites not only had high strength weight ratio of wood, but also had highstrength, high stiffness of GFRP. But physical and chemical properties of GFRP and timber weredifferent. These two materials were combined into a whole by their interface. Interface propertiesbetween GFRP and wood had an important impact on overall performance of GFRP/woodcomposites. Combined with interface chemical knowledge, this paper discussed the impact ofcoupling agents on interface bond performance of GFRP/wood composites.Firstly this paper studied the effect of coupling agent on tensile properties of three kinds ofGFRP-glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin, glass fiber reinforced phenolic resin, and glass fiberreinforced isocyanate resin. It was found that after coupling agent treatment, tensile properties ofthree kinds of glass fiber reinforced resin were significantly improved. In three kinds of GFRP,tensile properties of glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin were best; glass fiber reinforced phenolicresin worst.Secondly this paper studied surface properties of poplar veneer. It was found that dynamicwetting properties of poplar veneer were significantly improved after coupling agent treatment, and the effect of HMR treatment was better than KH550treatment. Dynamic wetting propertiesof phenolic resin on surface of polar veneer were better than epoxy resin on polar veneer surface.Through FTIR spectrum of polar veneer’s surface, it was found that chemical structure of poplarveneer’s surface changed,-OH and C-O-C groups increased.Thirdly this paper studied wetting properties of GFRP surface. It was found that the wettingproperties of phenolic resin on surface of polar veneer were better than epoxy resin on surface ofpolar veneer. Compared with wetting properties of GFRP and poplar veneer, it was discoveredthat dynamic wetting properties of phenolic resin and epoxy resin on surface of GFRP werebetter than on poplar veneer. Finally this paper studied the effect of coupling agent on interface bonding properties ofGFRP/wood composites. It was found that after coupling agent treatment, interface bondingproperties of GFRP/wood composites were significantly improved, and the effect of HMRtreatment was better than KH550treatment.
