The mechanical mixing method used for hot metal desulfurization and increasingsilicon in foundry industry is proposed for the first time. After analyzing the feasibility ofprocess, the main factors effecting desulphurization rate of hot metal and yield rate offerrosilicon are researched about the mechanical mixing method. On the base ofexperiment, the operating parameters are identified and the powder consumption forecastmodel is established. Then the conclusion can be drawn as following:The process of desulfurization and increasing silicon by mixing method in hot metalis capable of enabling the low-silicon operation and stability for blast furnace production,which provides a new technology for producing foundry ingot pig with low-sulfur andhigh-silicon.The sulfur in hot metal can be decreased from0.04%~0.06%to0.001%~0.008%and content of silicon can be increased from0.5%~0.7%to1.7%~1.9%after thetreatment with stirring process. So that, the hot metal with low-sulfur and high-siliconcan be satisfied for foundry industry.When the size of the lime is0.5~1.0mm; the speed of stirring is120r/min, the depthinserting into the hot metal is900~1100mm and the stirring time is8min that the rate ofdesulfurization will be above88%(94%maximum). Meanwhile, when the size of theferrosilicon is2~3mm, the speed of stirring is120r/min and stirring time is5min that theyield of ferrosilicon will be above90%(92.5%maximum).Short time of mixing can control the temperature decreasing of hot metal withconfirmed desulfurization degree. When the time of mixing is8min, the decrease oftemperature can be less than50℃. The melting of ferrosilicon can remit the decrease oftemperature and it will be less than37℃with the time of mixing is5min.When the content of sulfur is within0.001~0.008%and the content of silicon iswithin1.7%~1.9%,through the model of powder consumption, the error of final contentof sulfur is within0.005%and the error of final content of silicon is within0.2%.
