Nowadays improving coal ratio has been taken to improve the energy structure andreduce the pollution of coking in metallurgical industry. It is based on guaranteeing theactual strength of coke in blast furnace. The strength of coke is influenced by itsproperties, temperature and the carbon loss rate, The choice of coke, the adjustable oftemperature and its distribution in blast furnace are very limited. Therefore, the carbonloss rate is almost the only control factor of protecting the strength of coke.The study has used a high temperature compression testing machine with adjustableatmosphere to simulate the temperature of blast furnace and research the compressionstrength of coke in different carbon loss rate. With the carbon loss rate increased thecompression strength appears to have a linearity decline trend. The sensitivity of strengthto carbon loss rate has some connection not only with the kind of coke but also with thetemperature. In the blast furnace,the carbon loss rate is almost0when the temperature islower than600℃. Within600and1050℃, it increase quickly. Until the coke intern intothe hearth area, it rises slowly with the temperature increased.When the low reactivity of quality coke is mixed with the high reactivity of inferiorin the test, the inferior reacts with CO2early. And the carbon loss rate is lower thanexclusive use, but the high temperature is higher. When the coke whose size is small ismixed with the large one, the small has a high carbon loss rate and protects with the largeone. The coke has a complementary property in reactivity and size. Mixing the cokestogether can protect the quality coke and maintain adequate gas permeability of stockcolumn. Besides, it is can be fond the coke is at the first contact position with CO2and itscarbon loss rate is much higher than other locations.When the insufficient strength of coke causes badly damage, the complementary ofdifferent cokes in reactivity and granularity can be used to improve the strength andensure the permeability of stock column. It creates favorable conditions for raising coalratio and reducing coke ratio.
