The drought has long been one of China’s major natural disasters, and seriously affectedChina’s economic and social development andpeople’s production and life, the Impact onagricultural production is particularly serious. As the southwest province of China, has beenaffected by the drought disaster in a long time. Since the founding of new China, almostevery have a severe drought in2to3years, even spring, summer and autumn werecontinuous drought. Every5to10years will be a large scale and long time drought[2]. In recentyears, Sichuan Province in2006and2009-2010occurred two particularly serious droughts, what caused huge economic losses to the local district, also make the residents do not haveenough water to use. Cause of drought is very complex, humans have long been committedto grasp the occurrence and development rules of drought. The currenthuman technology cannot be accurately predicted the time and intensity ofdrought, butdrought occurrence is not untraceable. Vegetation and soil ‘s corresponding rules of droughtgive human the chance to resistance to drought. Therefore, in the first the study use1961to2010precipitation data what collected by the weather stations in Sichuan Province andneighboring provinces to study the temporal and spatial distribution of precipitation in SichuanProvince. And then we used the standardized precipitation index to study the spatial andtemporal disturibution characteristics of meteorological drought in Sichuan Province from1961to2010. On the other hand, the study use monthly NDVI and LST data synthsised by MODISimages, and combining the Temperature Vegetation Drought Index to study the spatial andtemporal disturibution characteristics of the two times occurred recently (2006and2009to2010) in the perspective of agricultural drought. And comparative and analysis the results of twomethods’ differences, explored the correlation between the two results, and research the droughtprediction model which suitable for Sichuan Province. The study found that the distribution of precipitation in Sichuan Province showed obvious temporal and spatial distribution. In the time distribution, the characteristics of precipitation changes during the year are two lower middle high. Precipitation began to gradually increase from spring, reached the highest in July or August and then began to decline. In this long process from1961to2010in Sichuan Province, there had been a general uptrend the annual precipitation of all the weather station in Sichuan Province had some fluctuations, Although sometimes fluctuationed. In space, high annual precipitation is in EastSichuan hilly area and Chengdu Plain, West Sichuan Plateau region is generally low. Through the statistical analysis of the standardized precipitation indexcalculation results, the distribution of drought frequency in Sichuan Province is relatively uniform and no significantcorrelation with elevation. Every7.8a moderate or above drought (SPI standard) occurred in Sichuan Province. In the period from1961to2010, the drought intensity had no significantly strengthened, but drought times than rise, suggesting that the area of Sichuan Province drought affected is expanding. In the period from1961to2010, the drought intensityhad no significantly strengthened, but drought area is expanding. The temperature vegetation drought index data obtained by the MODIS data products show the most serious drought occurred in Sichuan Basin in the drought events in2006, Suining city and Nanchong city is the most serious in eastern Sichuan area. In2006, Sichuan Province’s precipitation aresignificantly less, the degree of drought in the province all rised. The2010drought is mainly in Panxi region, the drought has been from2009October until2010April.
