Strategy Analytics’ studies show that, on average, people spend80%-90%time onindoors activities. With the development of the city, large buildings such as commercialbuildings, exhibition centers, airports and museums have sprung up. The internal structureof those new buildings become more and more complex. The services given by traditionaloutdoor map has been unable to meet people’s needs. As a result, indoor map services haveemerged. How to take advantage of the indoor environment to generate a map, and to achievemore practical, real indoor map system, become a hotspot in this fieldThis thesis summarizes and analyzes the research status about indoor maps. Some keytechnical issues about developing an indoor map service system, such as indoor map making,tile cutting and route planning are discussed. Main work are as follows.First part is about making indoor maps. By analyzing the spatial structure of largebuildings’ indoor environment, a conceptual model of indoor maps is designed. Therefore,taking into account the needs of indoor map data access, organizational structure andconversion processes of indoor maps are explored. And, the making process from vectormaps to tiles is implemented. Combining the core idea of outdoor-based map productionprocess with the characteristics of the interior space structure, production methods for indoormap is proposed.Second aspect is about tile cutting. Mercator projection as a benchmark, by convertingcoordinates among geographic coordinates, pixel coordinates and tile coordinates, the map oftile pyramid tile is produced. Also, the relevant slicing tool, geo-referenced informationmodel and tile storage strategy are surveyed. By applying the criteria for cutting outdoor tiles,how to cut the tiles of different floor in a same building is discussed.The third one is about path planning. It mainly contains path planning of same floor,different floor and waypoint constraint. For these three cases, related shortest path planningalgorithms are designed. At the same time, road network model of indoor maps and datastructure are given. The panning method of same floor follows the path planning algorithm’sidea of outdoor maps. In the situation of different floors, we consider unicom relationsbetween floors. In this work, an indoor map service system is developed. It can provide map tiles, pathplanning and POI search for iOS APPs. This system has been put into real usage. On onehand, it fully validated our work. On the other hand, it created a certain amount of economicand social benefits.
