In order to address the problem of high-temperature in geothermal drilling,Armstrong pioneered (1962) the concept of hot melt drilling. This technology isfirstly developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Japan and Russiasubsequently researched and applied it successfully.Based on rock melting technology, a novel material for mending brokenborehole wall is developed.Low temperature glass is selected the basic component of the novel material. We select the glass-ceramic with3%-5%borate,20%-30%quartz sand and20%-30%Al as the final recipe by comparing the influences of adding quartz sand, aluminum(Al) and borate on thermal, physical, and mechanical properties of the glass. We have breakthroughs in developing low temperature materials. The results oflaboratory experiments are satisfying. It indicates that the materials have great marketpotential.
