The physical model test of Jiaozhou Bay is one of the main technology means onstudy the hydrodynamic characteristics of Jiaozhou Bay, it can conduce to thescientific use and sustainable development of the Jiaozhou Bay. Measuring andcontrolling techniques are important technical support for the successful test. In thispaper, according to the requirement of the Jiaozhou Bay model test, a high-accuracy,low-cost, high-reliability and convenient automatic measuring and controlling systemwas developed. This system has been successfully applied in the experiment, in whichit fulfilled the task of tide control and hydraulic parameters measurement, andenhanced the accuracy and efficiency of experiment and ensured the quality ofexperiment. The study content and results are as follows:(1) In the light of the flow characteristics of Jiaozhou Bay tide, a controlling systemis designed to simulate the tide using the tidal water level controlling. Based onfrequency control technology, the system uses PLC for the remote control of theconverters to drive two-way axle flow pumps to generate the tide. The experimentresults show that the system can accurately adjust instantaneous water quantity in andout of the model, and ensure the precision of simulated tide.(2) A flow velocity measurement system is developed to measure the flow velocitydistribution of the bay mouth in the model. The system measures flow velocity bycalculating the frequency of signal generated by flow velocity sensor, it realizesmulti-channel and real-time frequency data acquisition via the data acquisition boards.(3) Based on ZigBee technology, a wireless water level data acquisition system isintegrated by using IPC, wireless data transmission modules and high-precisiongrating water level meters. This system can monitor the water level of the tide and thereservoir in real time.(4) A large-scale digital particle image velocimetry system is developed to measurethe whole surface flow field in the physical model of Jiaozhou Bay. This systemcreatively uses the digital SLR cameras to obtain the images or video of flow field byoblique photography.Finally, this paper summarizes the achievements and problems of the research, andmakes some suggestions to improve and perfect the system in the future.
