At present, there are many kinds of the numerical method to solve the problem of partialdifferential equation about groundwater of finite element method. FEM is one of a kind ofimportant method, and this method is used for solving the approximate solution of thefunction directly. In recent years, with the development of the electronic computer by leapsand bounds, to solve the problem of partial differential equations, more and more people usedit to carry on the numerical method of finite element, and it provides the related problem thatsolving PDE is an important tool. Direct application MATLAB PDE toolbox to solve theproblem (including groundwater) has become very widely. Solve problems of partialdifferential equations using pdetool, it is through the application of finite element method tosolve the problem. MATLAB pdetool to explore and related issues of calculating two-dimensional partial differential equation provides a good practical working environment. Theworking platform and flexible and convenient application. This paper introduces the related knowledge and the PDE toolbox in MATLAB, and thebasic principle of finite element. Are discussed in detail in the use of partial differentialequation of the toolbox software in the graphical user interface (GUI) to solve the problem, how to define a definite solution problem of geometric area, how to set the type of partialdifferential equation and the equation parameter, as well as to the setting of boundaryconditions. Take concrete steps to solve the problem in the practical engineering problems ofgroundwater, this article will toolbox problem solving method applied to the two-dimensionalsteady flow and two dimensional non steady flow of groundwater problems in engineering. Atwo-dimensional steady flow including confined aquifer will complete well steady flow andsteady flow unconfined aquifer drawdown of specific issues. Here also introduced the M fileof PDE, The M files of PDE can be generated as a condition known to be invoked by otherprograms. Using the PDE toolbox to solve practical engineering problems of groundwater, theresults show that the MATLAB PDE toolbox to solve the problem of groundwater.
