With the development of times, people generally realize the importance of protection andutilization of the natural mountain resources. As for the mountain landscape, it is an importantissue that how to build a favorable landscape space according to the characteristics of mountaintopographies in different areas. But in terms of the current status of domestic mountain landscapespace, especially the type, organization, connection, layout and composition of the landscapespace are lack of systematic research, which leads to the disharmony between the mountain,landscape, space and conception in the design of mountain landscape space and affect the overallvalue.Taking the West Lake mountain landscape space as the main object, the thesis presentsresearches and discussions on it with the current status of the domestic and foreign mountainlandscape space, and a field survey on the overall situation of it. Action Observation Method isapplied to record the visitors’ behavioral characteristics in the activities of visiting the West Lakemountain landscape space. The current status, hierarchical nodes, design features and conceptcreation of the mountain landscape space in the West Lake area are summarized by usingmulti-disciplinary knowledge of Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape, Aesthetics, Psychology,and so on. Through theoretical and practical investigation, combined analysis of the relationshipbetween the behavior of visitors and the landscape space is made, and the suggestion onoptimizing the West Lake mountain landscape space is proposed.The thesis focuses on the study of the overall layout of the landscape space, sequenceorganization, combination of different space, shared space and spatial evolution for the ninemountain scenic area of the West Lake, and their effect on the visual perception, emotionalexperience, and concept creation of the West Lake mountain landscape. Furthermore, aiming toprovide some reference for the mountain park, urban pattern construction, we also made someefforts to generalize the design techniques used in the West Lake mountain landscape space.
