The Altun mountain is located in the northern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, because of its special geographical location and geological significance, has been the focus ofthe scholars at home and abroad. Previous studies on the Altun mountain is mainly focusedon the Altun fault activity time, strike-slip displacement and the distribution law of theevolution of sedimentary basins, and the generation of new Altun mountain uplift peripheryconnection between did not pay attention. This paper selected mountain edge of Cenozoic sedimentary basin in South Altun as theresearch object, a systematic analysis of sedimentary and tectonic characteristics of SouthAltun mountain late Cenozoic, combined with previous research on Late Cenozoicsedimentary facies, discusses the sedimentary evolution and geomorphic evolution, andobtain knowledge and some progress, the main aspects are as follows:⑴Preliminary determination of the stratum structure and sedimentary environment ofmain New South Altun Mountain Area.⑵Through a comprehensive analysis of the late Cenozoic sedimentary lithology, sedimentary facies and tectonic characteristics in each stage of combination, combining theconclusions of previous research, forecasts that South Altun mountain area has experiencedthree important tectonic and sedimentary evolution in Late Cenozoic, were shrinking stage ofthe basin, basin expansion and shrink again stage basin.⑶Through the analysis of the late Cenozoic sedimentary assemblage, tectoniccharacteristics and sources of the South Altun mountain, late Pliocene-Early Pleistocene ofcertain evolution, try to restore the southern Altyn mountain ancient landform pattern: Altunarea south ditch group of lions may be sporadic distribution amount of small hills; Shizigouformation period South Altun mountain appeared but did not reach the height of sedimentarybasins on both sides of the mountain, still through; seven spring group period South xorkolcorridor has certain scale uplift; Pleistocene South Aerjin mountain in the late period ofintense tectonic uplift, the regional large-scale uplift for landform today.
