Composite cylindrical shell structures with vscoelastic materials are widely used inthe area of military and civilian, epecially in the national defense industry. This paper isto analyse suchstructures’ mechanical behavior under dynamic impact loading by usingkinetic enegy projectiles with viscoelastic high explosives. The research of penetration questions has been developed very embedded and gotabundant conclusions in our country and abroad. Generally speaking, there are threeways of researching the penetration questions: analytical methods, empirical formulasand computer simulation. This paper mainly discusses several methods of the analysisof penetration, also shows several empirical formulas of projectiles penetrating intodifferent targets, then shows the material model and the calculation model we desire, and calculates the model we need to discuss with finite element simulation software, and discusses the results. Now, with the rapid development of computer technology, the method of usesimulation software to calculate the penetration questions’ mechanical behavior hasbecome a major method. This paper calculates the penetrating behavior ofprojectiles byLS-DYNA, mainly analyses the dynamic response of the viscoelastic explosives. This isa new field compared with the research of penetration questions that concerned aboutthe depth of penetrating. In the finite element model, this paper gets the location of stress in different areasof the explosive by calculate the three-dimensional model, include the axial stress andthe Von-Mises effective stress, then calculates the overload behavior of the explosive byimproved meshing method and gets the overload curve. This paper concludes the law ofstress amplitude in the explosive by calculating a two-dimensional model, include axialstress, Von-Mises effective stress and pressure. This paper also considers the impact ofthe explosive’s mechanical response by adding cushioning structure, and gets the stressamplitude curve of the explosive in this situation.
