Ocean whitecap is an important manifestation of the wave breaking theory andalso a common phenomenon of the sea surface. It have a lot of contact with the oceanwind speed, temperature and climate. Study on the whitecap derivation and vanishmechanism have a significant meaning on the application of ocean remote sensing,sea-air interface interaction, wave theory and sea salt aerosol particles. There for, whitecap coverage is becoming a hot issue for a lot of marine scientists. This thesisfocus on the relationship between whitecap coverage and wind speed based on SouthChina sea images. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, based on the principle of pin-hole imaging, we proposed a method to dothe image rectification work, confirmed all the parameters individually through thereal objects.Secondly, this thesis discussed all the possible factors that could jeopardized theaccuracy of whitecaps calculating. Also we offered two possible way to extract thewhitecaps of CCD pictures. One of them is a kind of adaptive method that lays thefoundation to batching processing. Finally, we calculated the degree of fitting and variance of this formula, compared it with the previous empirical formula. Most of the empirical coverageformula have no rigorous mathematical discussion. We find a method based oncamera calibration which steel need to be perfected that could be a good addition andcorrection for the data obtained from the satellite.
