A large amount of poisonous hydrogen sulfide gas produced by oil processing is increasing graduslly with more and more oil resources is consumed. Exhaust emissions will cause environmental pollution, and endanger human body health. So, how to realize the efficient processing of hydrogen sulfide gas is one of the hot issues in the field of waste gas treatment.Atmospheric pressure microwave plasma received widespread attention at domestic and abroad in the field of waste gas treatment, which have high electron density and electron temperature, and low equipment cost, simplicity of operation, inexpensive vacuum equipment. This paper studied the decomposition of hydrogen sulfide gas by using home made atmospheric pressure microwave plasma jet(MPJ). The study of the discharge as well as the structure and performance features of this device was introduced and debug. The investigates on the temperature, microwave power, carrier gas species and flow as well as the total gas flow rate have been carried out for the influences of H2S decomposition. The solid material was characterized by Raman and XRD.The results show that in order to carry out experiment effectively, the temperature must be controlled within a certain range by cooling water, because of the various forms of elemental sulfur at different temperature. The decomposition rate of H2S was increased gradually to a constant vaule along with the increase of the microwave power when the other conditions was kept the same. The decomposition rate of H2S was increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of carrier gas flow rate. With the increase of the total gas flow rate, the decomposition rate of H2S was falling. But the downward trend was slow at higher microwave power. The lower ratio of the H2S and carrier gas flow was conducive to decompose H2S. The production of the treatment characterized by Raman and XRD demonstrated the high quality and purity of elemental sulfur. CO2, in some degree, was benefit to promote the decomposition of H2S, but the decomposition of CO2was low. Meanwhile the addition of CO2generated new secondary pollutants, carbon monoxide which did not conform to the environmental protection. The decomposition of91.32%was obtained for H2S decomposition at the condition of1000W, H2S/Ar of10/90, total flow of1000mL/min. All the reaults obtained by this investigation show that hydrogen sulfide gas can be decomposed efficiently by this atmospheric pressure microwave plasma jet,and the device has potential application prospects in the field of waste gas treatment.
