With the rapid development of social economy and the growing demands for electricity, the coastal regions have established many thermal/nuclear power plants. Circulating cooling water generated by this type of power plants operating commonly used surface cooling, such natural waters heat release method will impact the water environment of the receiving waters, even cause thermal pollution. The key to solving such problems is a reasonable forecast and quantitative description of the hydrodynamic characteristics and temperature distribution of the waters. Generally speaking, we used physical model test and numerical simulation method to research intake and drainage waters temperature field of cooling water project in Engineering.The numerical simulation of two-dimensional model is as the main way in engineering, it can reflect a wide range of water heat transportation and diffusion, but can not well reflect the engineering three-dimensional temperature field near zone. To this end, based on ECOMSED model, this paper take a three-dimensional numerical simulation of tidal current field and temperature field of the coastal region, it has a high theoretical significance and application value in engineering to improve the sophistication of the numerical simulation and better reflect the hierarchical nature of the temperature field.A case study of the cooling water layout program in Zhanjiang Power Plant Phase II, ECOMSED model has been used to simulate trend of power and temperature fields of engineering waters. Compared with the results of the physical model test, it is feasible of the ECOMSED model to simulate the coastal waters hydrothermal characteristics by analyzing and verifying, and expand the application of ECOMSED model.This paper is as follows:First, a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of research methods, research status of engineering of cooling water temperature relief has been done by reading a lot of literature.Second, the tidal waters of the three-dimensional hydrodynamic thermal model have been established using ECOMSED mathematical model.Third, a simulation of spring and neap tide current filed nearby the power plant is carried out based on the original body of Zhanjiang Port hydrological observation data.Fourth, take a cooling water project of Zhanjiang Power Plant Phase II project layout program for example, a simulation of the project’s three-dimensional temperature field has been carried out based on the verifying and calculating tidal current field of the waters near the power plant. The calculation results include the maximum temperature rise envelope, the average temperature distribution and vertical distribution of typical points in spring tide and neap tide.Fifth, the numerical simulation results were compared with the physical model test results, numerical simulation results and physical model test results are in good agreement. The results show that it is a feasible using to simulate the tidal current field and temperature field at the coastal waters based on ECOMSED model.
