Methods Research On Construction Of Historical Geographic Information System Based On Network

With the aid of GIS theory and related technologies, the limitations traditional researchmethods of historical geography have in data storage, management, analysis, visualization anddata sharing will be remedied and improved.This article constructed a historical geographic information system on the basis ofhistorical geographic data, and proposed resolutions in use of GIS related technologies andmethods to deal with the problems, such as storage difficulties, hard management, lack ofspatial analysis methods, original outcome presentation, low data-sharing capabilities etc.,which will provide a new perspective and new ideas for historical geographic research.Following processes are included:1. Analyze the characteristics of historical geographic data and design a spatial-temporaldata model, based on which a new database will be established with the Oracle Spatial inOracle database to store the historical geographic data and realize the database managementfunctions like adding, deleting, changing and checking.According to the problems existing in historical geographic research, we can developcomponents with corresponding functions on the established geographic information basisplatform to achieve the database management and data analysis, thus further research ontemporal-spatial distribution of historical geography can be realized. When the efforts begin,we can evacuate hidden secrets from the data, discover the unfound knowledge and putforward unnoticed issues;3. On the basis of the existing historical geographic information system, combined withnetwork geographic information system technology, a historical geographic data sharingplatform will be built with ArcGIS Server to realize a whole set of processes,release-get-use of historical geographic data, which is convenient and effective to share theresearch results and make network data available anytime and anywhere.4. When the management and analysis of data are successful, we will propose specificvisualization methods for different applications and visually reflect the temporal and spatialrelationship of data to make the historical geographic research processes and results easilyknown. Besides, it is more visual for dynamic visualization of data to reflect the historicalgeographic changes based on time.5. The feasibility of the constructed historical geographic information system will betested or verified by solving the specific problems existing in History Population Geography.
