Based on the conventional observation temperature data of160stations reorganized by the National Climate Center and the sea surface temperature data of HADLEY center, application of maximum covariance analysis (MCA) method to diagnose the relationship between seasonal temperature anomalous type of eastern China and prior period sea surface temperature anomalous (SSTA) mode, the paper has a certain value for improving the seasonal temperature forecast accuracy. Results show that:(1) There are some significant coupling relationships between anomalous of temperature in eastern China and anomalous of prior sea surface temperature (SST). The MCA first mode display, The SSTA significantly coupling with the spring and early summer (April to June) temperatures in eastern are the tropical Indian Ocean leading temperature1-3months, the tropical Pacific prior temperature1-6months, and tropical Atlantic advance temperature3-5months; The tropical Indian Ocean SSTA and the South Indian Ocean SSTA leading temperature4-6months can indicate Winter (December-February) temperature anomalous. In the MCA second mode, the tropical Indian Ocean leading temperature4-5months and the tropical Pacific SSTA leading temperature3-4months are coupling significant with temperature anomalous.(2) The winter temperatures in eastern China of MCA modes are similar to the two main anomalous types of temperature, that are consistent type and North-South reverse anomalous type. The winter consistent anomalous types of temperature are significant coupling with the SSTA mode that similar to the June-August tropical Pacific SSTA EOF second mode and the South Indian Ocean SST EOF second mode; the SSTA modes significant coupling with winter north-south inverting anomalous type of temperature are similar to the July-September tropical Indian Ocean second EOF mode and August-October tropical Atlantic SST consistent EOF first mode.(3) The regression characteristics of the atmospheric circulation on MCA significant SSTA mode are similar to circulation anomalies corresponding to two anomalous types of temperature. The regression on SST mode corresponding to the consistent warming type show that Siberian High and the Aleutian Low weakened, East Asian trough shallowed, mid-latitude westerlies weakened. The regression on SST mode corresponding southwest-cold northeast-Warm type performance that Siberian High and Aleutian low pressure enhanced, Arctic sea level pressure reduced, mid-latitude potential rised.
