Chongming Island is not only the world’s largest estuary alluvial island but also thethird-largest island in China which located at mouth of Yangtze River. Unique geographicalposition and rich natural resources make it Shanghai’s most strategic development space. Sincethe Strategic Orientation of “Ecological Chongming” was proposed, its economic developmentgets more and more attention, which is bound to impact on its land use and landscape pattern. Therefore, it has great significance for Chongming Island’s sustainable development to study itsland use/land cover and landscape pattern dynamic change. In this thesis, the land use/land cover change(LUCC) and landscape pattern dynamic change ofChongming Island were analyzed with RS,GIS and landscape pattern analysis software, as well as their drivingforce factors and the accompanying carbon cycle. The main results were the followings:⑴The total areas of Chongming Island increased yearly from2000to2010.Among them, the areas of water and agricultural land were declining, and the former was largest; constructionland, forest land, mud flat and unused land areas presented an increasing tendency. A transformof different degree existed between various land-use type, agricultural land and unused land werethe main rollout, construction land and forest land were the roll in type, and the range of transferwas big between forest land and forest land; the rate of land-use change was increased.⑵here were16indexes were chose to analyze the change of the landscape pattern ofChongming Island. The results showed that: During the research period, the number of patchesincreased,The patch’s average area increased from36.0612km~2in2000to37.6158km~2in2010.Other patch types’average area both increased except water, among them, the increment ofaverage area of agricultural land was67.1494km~2. which was largest. The degree of landscapefragmentation reduced, and the distribution of patches was increasingly clumped; the divergenceof each type’s scale reduced. Land comprehensive utilization degree was increasing, and showthe influence about human activity enhanced.⑶The main driving force factor is socio-economic factor, which include the development ofthe second and third industry, the accretion of population, Rural development situation, urbanization and policy of the government. Among them, the decision and intervention of thegovernment was the more important, it played an oriented role.⑷Carbon emission from land use of Chongming Island increased23700t since2000,about3.31%of2000.It increased23.92%for five years before, and16.64%behind. The land-usechange had a positive impact on the carbon cycle in the study area from2005to2010,the netamount of carbon of agricultural land reduced by50t,and the net carbon sequestration ofeconomic forest increased by17400t,but the net carbon emissions of construction land reducedby143300t during ten years, which demonstrated that it is beneficial to the improvement of thecarbon sequestration ability to increasing the areas of economic forest and industrial crop.
