Research of river health originated from1980s. With the rapid development ofurbanization and industrialization, river pollution problem became more and moreseriously. In recent years, the degree of attention to river health have redoubled,especially as the city water environmental pollution is gradually getting attention, riverhealth problems in our country got more extensive attention. How to evaluate the riverhealth effectively and come up with controlling measures also became one of the keyissues. GIS technology, as a kind of spatial analysis tools and techniques, has been moreand more used in the natural resources and environmental protection and management,also provided an effective technical method for river health assessment.This paper summed up the river health evaluation on the basis of previous researchin the author’s team, perfected mountainous urban river health evaluation index system.Then, this paper focus on developing mountainous urban river health evaluation GIS.The main results as follows:(1)Amending and perfecting mountainous urban river health evaluation indexsystem and comprehensive evaluation method, combined with GIS evaluation needs,determined the evaluation index standardization processing method, determined theindex weight by combination weighting method.(2)Analyzed the of mountain city river health GIS, designed the overall structureand functional of the system, built database and model base on the basis of Arc GISplatform, developed Mountain City River Health Evaluation System by Arc Engine andC#. The system consists of database, model library, the GIS function module and thevisual interface, realized the basic view of the function, managed spatial data effectively, evaluated river health automation and visualization.(3)Taohua river health level in Changshou District of Chongqing was evaluatedby this system, and put forward some management ideas. The evaluation results show:Developed by GIS platform can be combined with terrain and spatial characteristics,and got the evaluation results quickly. Taohua river in Changshou District healthcomprehensive evaluation score is mainly between50-67points, overall in a state ofsub-health partial health, indicated that this system is feasible.
