The Research On Self-development Capability Of The Western Region

Development is an eternal topic of human society, meanwhile, the research on thecapability of development is also the central issue in the field of academics and practice.Regional self-development capability is the synthesis of natural productivity, economiccohesiveness and social development force in an area. The combination of regionalself-development capability and external driving force becomes regional comprehensivedevelopment capacity. As an inner ability of development in a region, such integrationcan be cultivated through regional competitiveness and development potential. Thewestern region, a place where its economic development falls behind other areas inChina, nurturing and enhancing the self-development capability in the vast westernregion has become the fundamental way to escape poverty, promote economic healthyand sustainable development. Large-scale development of the western region has lastmore than ten years and it has reached brilliant achievements. At the same time, now itis a key historical period of chaning industry model and development model. Therefore,at this stage,the research about self-development capability of the western region has astrong practical and theoretical significance for choosing the path for futuredevelopment in the western region and the adjustment of economic structure.This paper employs the theory of development capacity and poverty capacity onthe basis of achievement of research about self-development capability at home andabroad,we try to define self-development capability,and combine with the existingregional competitiveness evaluation index,and then design the evaluation ofself-development capability indicator system. First, this article relies on index systemand related data to do the quantitative evaluation of the self-development capability ofthe western regional provinces. Second, this article combines the results with thesituation of the western region economy development,and empirical analyses relationbetween self-development capability and economic level. Finally, this paper indicatessome policy recommendations depending on the improvement of the western regionalself-development capability in the field of the natural enviorment, society humanresouce, and economy.This paper combines with previous studies on self-development capability, and explores following aspects: First, this article defines the regional self-developmentcapability and constructes the self-development capability evaluation index system thatsuited to the realities of economic and social development of the western region andquantitatively evaluates self-development capability from the provincial level in thewestern region. Second, the paper quantitatively analyses the relationship betweenself-development capability and economic level.The study finds that self-developmentcapability has highly correlation with economy level in the western region. Economicgrowth is an important method to cultivate self development capability.Howerer,because the measurement of self-development capability needs further improvementand the method lacks consideration on the time dimension, the research about itsendogenous and other aspect is not deep enough, it need further study.
