Studies of mountain tourism are increasingly mounting as mountain tourismemerges and becomes popular. As a bottleneck to the development of mountain tourism, transportation has been studied by scholars, mostly from the perspectives of planningand construction, while exploration in travelers’ behaviors is lacking. To improve thesatisfaction of tourists travelling to mountains in a true sense and enhance thedevelopment of the transportation system for mountain tourism, it is essential that weunderstand the behavioral traits of mountain tourists first. This dissertation herein seeksto identify the current status of and existing issues with transportation for mountaintourism by studying the behaviors of mountain tourists and traits therein, and offerrelevant suggestions on improving construction of transportation system for mountaintourism.Research of this paper is anchored on the behavioral science of tourism consumers, management of tourism transportation and marketing among other academicdisciplines as the basic theoretic supports. Questionnaire survey is performed on theHailuogou tourist spot to analyze the transportation behaviors of mountain tourists.Through descriptive statistics of the original data and quantitative multiple linearregression analysis of relevant factors, the paper has so concluded that: tourists arehighly conscious of environmental protection and their personal safety in transportationof mountain tourism; they don’t only pursue maximum benefits, but show emotionalinclinations in their behaviors and compared to the price of transportation forms, theyare more concerned with the quality of attractions the respective transportation formcould offer; the quality of tourism resources exerts significant impact on their satisfaction with the tourist spot; and while they favor novel transportation forms suchas the miniature mountain trains and helicopters, environmental and spending issuesare also their concerns, making them a paradox of contradictions.Based on the relevant theories and analysis of the transportation behaviors oftourists to the Hailuogou, the author proposed at the end of the essay a number ofsuggestions on improving the infrastructures and quality of transportation at Hailuogou, advocating “green” transportation, introducing marketing, perfecting the ropewaytransportation system and developing new ways of transportation.
