The assurance of corporate sustainability reporting has long been a controversial field.Corporate management and suppliers are routinely accused of violating principles ofsustainability, an important exercise in public accountability. This thesis responds to recent callsfor an analysis of the process by which the violation takes place. Integrating elements of neo-institutional theory and arena concept, the thesis provides a detailed study of the sustainablestrategy of H&M.This paper provides a thorough description of various threats to the sustainabledevelopment of H&M, such as their cotton frond problem, transport problem, employees training,customer dealings, etc. After that, the paper provides an account of H&M’s effort to seek asolution package to these threats, which together is represented as H&M’s sustainability strategy.Among the solution efforts are: they have their own sustainable strategy department, in thiswhich H&M tries to improve itself and resolve their sustainability problems; they are doing a lotof social work, like children education investment, employee training, thus making muchpositive contribute to the community in which it operates. This paper also provides informationon the result of H&M’s sustainability strategy, and draws some lessons from the overall case,which may prove meaningful to other similar clothing companies.
