Since the reform and opening up, Chinese economy has experienced rapiddevelopment,devoted by the state-owned economy, especially large state-ownedenterprises(SOEs) who played a pivotal role in national production and people’s life.Therefore,it is urgent to study the causing factors of the SOEs performance and findthe way to improve it in order to promote the rapid economic development of China.This paper takes the performance and influencing factors of the large foreign SOEs asresearch object, so that our state-owned enterprises reform can take it as goodreference.This article is divided into6chapters.Chapter1is the introduction part. In this section, background and meanings ofselected topic is firstly introduced, and then literatures home and abroad aresummarized. Finally,there is a brief introduction of the research methods, creativepoints and inadequacies.Chapter2gives a general review of the overall situation of foreign state-ownedeconomy,focusing on the way how major developed and developing countries formand improve their state-owned enterprises. This chapter is the overall background ofthe following specific analyses on large foreign SOEs.Chapter3introduces the mainstream theory on the performance of SOEs--‘Property Rights Theory’ and ‘Competition Theory’.Based on that, the authorestablishes a simple theory model on enterprise performance, to lay a theoreticalfoundation for the empirical analyses in the two following chapters.Chapter4establishes a panel model. The author makes empirical analysis on theperformance of both the foreign large-scale SOEs and the foreign large-scale privateenterprises and discusses the differences between them. Furthermore, the author explores the impact of the industry layout on the performance of SOEs.Chapter5also applies a panel model which focus on foreign large-scale SOEsalone and make empirical analysis to find a feasible way to improve the performanceof large-scale SOEs.Chapter6is conclusion and recommendations. This chapter points out that theperformance of the large state-owned enterprises can be effectively improved by theintroduction of competition, deepening enterprise internationalization, streamliningcorporate institutions and personnel.
