Modern economic growth theories consider innovation and technological changes as important sources of economic growth, which provides a theoretical basis for regional innovation research. Knowledge Spillovers and their geographical boundedness cause in spatial clusters in innovation activities. This paper describes the spatial distribution of China’s provincial innovation activities, and then studies the main factors affecting the innovation activities by the mean of combining the knowledge production function model with spatial panel data model. This is of great significance for China to improve innovation level and promote coordinated development of regional economic. This paper contains five chapters:Chapter1mainly explains the background and purpose of this article, overviews research status, and introduces the main content, innovations and limitations. Chapter2gives a briefly describes on the important theoretical model:Knowledge Production Function (KPF), and elaborates the related theories of innovation, which includes evolution of innovation theories, innovative research in theories of economic growth, and conduction mechanism of knowledge spillovers. Chapter3firstly discusses the optimal measure of innovation output, and then studies the spatial distribution and cluster of China’s provincial innovation activities. Chapter4analyzes the influencing factors of China’s provincial innovation activities, using the knowledge production function model combined with the spatial econometric methods. Chapter5summarizes the empirical findings of this article, and then put forward policy recommendations on how to improve the capacity of regional innovation.
