Reaserching In The Relationship Between Regional Innovation And Regional Economic Development

Regional innovation has been regarded as an important impetus of regional economic development. It played a significant role in regional economic growth as well as regional industrial structure upgrading and regional competitiveness promoting. Regional economic development also provided solid material base and necessary environment for the regional innovation. The total economical quantity of Zhejiang province has been growing stably and continuously since the new century, even at a slower pace. At the same time, as science and technology input enlarged year by year, the regional innovation comprehensive capability of Zhejiang ranks the top level in the whole nation. Therefore, it is practically significant to make researches on the relationship between regional innovation and regional economic development.This thesis reviews the relevant literature of regional innovation and regional economic development, straightens out the theoretical concepts and the evaluation methods, and analyzes the interaction between them. Then, drawing on previous research, we established index systems and scaled the weight of every index reasonably. In the empirical part, this thesis categorised and evaluated regional innovation and regional economic development of different regions with the sample of11cities in Zhejiang province during the last decade. According to the empirical result, we analyzed the potential causality and time lag between them. Furthermore, this thesis, discussed the way to promote the regional innovation and economic development level from the viewpoint of improving the regional innovation input-output efficiency.Finally, reaserch findings and conclusions are provided in this thesis as follows:(1) In the past ten years, the regional innovation and regional economic development of zhejiang province has been rising steadily, however, has a gap between regions;(2) There is an unidirectional causation between regional innovation and regional economic development;(3)1he regional innovation promotes the regional economic development with a time lag in that, different region has different delay period;(4) Regional difference exists regional innovation input-output efficiency. The innovation and economic develop better, the innovation efficiency will be higher;(5) Regional innovation input-output efficiency and regional innovation capability in the same regional innovation system are closely linked. The regional innovation capability can be enhanced by raising the regional innovation efficiency which eventually boosts the regional economic development.
