On Development Of Lotus Nuts Industry Of Shicheng County

Characteristic agriculture has been a hot topic recently. Shicheng County, belonging to Jiangxi Province, is an agricultural, hilly county with special regional features and resource advantages. In order to achieve economic speedup and transition, Shicheng government should exploit its resource advantages adequately to boom the local economy and increase farmers’income. Thus, accelerating the development of Shicheng’s characteristic agriculture, i.e. lotus nuts (Nelumbo nucifera) industry, is of great importance of sustainable development of its local economy.This master dissertation is on research and exploration of development of lotus nuts industry of Shicheng, based on the useful years of work experiences of the author. In the dissertation, we elaborate the essence of the characteristic agriculture systematically, and introduce the current state of domestic and international researches on characteristic agriculture. We study the historical processes, status quo and industry value chain of development of the lotus nuts industry of Shicheng, and evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses/limitations, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) involved in it. Benefiting from the successful business models inland and abroad, we propose some strategies for developing the lotus nuts industry of Shicheng. Shicheng government should issue industrial planning to guild the development of the lotus nuts industry. It should improve relevant policies to support the local leading enterprises concerning lotus nuts industry. It should raise the brand consciousness of related enterprises, and increase the famousness and reputation of Shicheng as an origin of lotus nuts. The lotus nuts producers should enhance the technical content of products with technological improvements. Shicheng government should reinforce the guidance of local companies to build a favorable environment for industries.
