Study On The Structure Of Imports And Economic Growth In Shanaxi Province

The relationship between international trade and economic growth has become ahot issue of economic academic research. However, for a long time, the research onlystresses on analyzing the relationship between exportation and economic growth andthinks that importation may hinder economic growth. The literatures of the relationshipbetween import trade and economic growth have been increasing gradually since1980s. When scholars explore the influence of import trade on economic growth,foreign research focuses on the influence of import trade structure on technologyprogress and economic growth while domestic research focuses on the total amountinstead of the factor of trade structure. Since the reform and open policy, the foreigntrade, particularly import trade in Shaanxi Province, develops rapidly and import tradeplays an increasingly important role in stimulating the economic growth. ShaanxiProvince is a leader in western development, and the influence of its import tradestructure on economic growth has representative significance in western region.Therefore it has a very important practical and theoretical significance to research onthe relationship between import trade structure and economic growth in Shaanxi.This paper starts from the international trade theory and economic growth theory,which has the purpose of optimizing the Shaanxi import trade structure and promotingeconomic growth. This article is divided into six parts to study the relationshipbetween import trade structure and economic growth in Shaanxi province. The firstpart is introduction. The second part is to analyze the theory of the relationshipbetween the import trade structure and economic growth starting from the relativetheories of international trade and economic growth. On this basis, the article furtherstudies the internal mechanism and influence factors of import trade structure upgradeon promoting economic growth, which laid the foundation on the theory of influenceon import trade and economic growth for the following analysis. The third partanalyzes the current situation of import trade structure and economic growth inShaanxi. The fourth part is empirical analysis of the relationship between import tradestructure and economic growth in Shaanxi Province. In this part, ADF test,CO—Integration analysis，Granger causality tests and Error correction model are usedto cover the relationship between manufactured goods imports, imports of primaryproducts and the economic growth in Shaanxi Province, general trade imports,processing trade imports, other trade imports and economic growth in ShaanxiProvince. The result of empirical analysis is that general trade imports and manufactured goods are significantly greater to economic growth in ShaanxiProvince.The fifth part proposes scientific and reasonable policy based on the aboveanalysis to optimize import trade structure and improve economic growth in ShaanxiProvince. The last part is a summary and prospect of the research.
