As the solution of execution level, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) islocated between plan level and control level in the company MIS structure, and get moreattention recently. Facing to the bottom level of production, MES must satisfy variety ofrequests with the technical complication. Based on the practice to a MES project of achemical plant, this dissertation studies on applying PMBOK to MES project managementand developing widely adaptive project planning and designing documents to minimizethe risk during project execution, improve project performance and extend MEStechnology to more plants. At first the dissertation describes the system architecture andfunction of MES, and introduces project concept and PMBOK (Project Management Bodyof Knowledge) theory. Then it introduces the project background. At the beginning of theproject, the company organization was collected, and its impact to the project managementwas analyzed. The project sponsors were recognized as well. As per the understanding ofthe complication of the project and the importance of the planning, the requirement wascollected as far as possible. Then the scope planning and WBS (Work BreakdownStructure) creation were implemented, and detailed work package for MES project forchemical plant were developed by further designing. Due to the organization of the projectteam, the sponsors were classified and communication planning was established. Becauseof the technical complication, project Risk Breakdown Structure (RBS) was built and RiskRegister was defined. Base on the project planning deliverables, MES project wasimplemented on a chemical plant, and the efficiency and functionality of MES projectplanning and designing deliverables were well proved.
