The development of modern service industry has been one of those criteria thatlable a nation’s modernization and internationalization in recent days. Modern service industry features a high human resource, highadditional value and high technology.This paper analyses the development of modern service industry in modernizedcities. By doing so, it tries to prove that modern service industry has become the enginefor economic increases, major channel of employment. At the same time, itsdevelopment positions the city’s function and international roles. A further analysis ofthe new trend of modern service industry shows that the innovation ininformation-technology has led to creation of service models—knowledge-basedservice industry has becoming the core service of international cities. The innovation inservice model and new products has become the power of the development of serviceindustry. Creative industry has provided traditional service industry more technologicaland cultural connotation, together with a larger space. Right now, service industry in thecentral part of city has seen a faster development in some modernized cities like HepingDistrict in Tianjin, Yuexiu District in Guangzhou, etc.This paper takes Yuzhong District, Chongqing as the sample to analyse the presentsituation of modern service industry there, and tries to prove that it is better than thetraditional service industry in the following aspects: a) a larger scale, b) more variouscategories, c) more service objectives in business, d) an advantage in financial field, e)high-level of modern trade distribution, etc.. a low level of additional value andcomputational ability. In order to solve those problems, the author suggests sevensolutions: a) to strengthen the guidance of service industry and realize thegreat-leap-forward development of Yuzhong District, b) to focus on business serviceand develop new model of interactive development, c) to break the industry monopolyand reform the management system of modern service industry, d) to upgrade industriallevel and Optimize industry structure, e) to optimize space layout and effectively useforeign capitals, f) to be livelihood-oriented and train relative professional talents, and g)to advance the enterprization, industrialization and socialization of modern serviceindustry in Yuzhong District in an orderly fashion.
