The online banking began in the1990s, it is the most groundbreakinge-commerce applications in the financial sector. Online banking is also thedevelopment and change product of Internet and e-commerce, it has become the mostinnovative financial service mode.Online banking in China has gradually become thebest choice of commercial banks to improve competitiveness, attract customers,improve service quality, broaden the market and seek new direction ofdevelopment.The rapid development of Internet banking plays a huge role inpromoting for China’s banking industry, but in the process it also exposed theproblems to be solved at the same time. Based on a large number of empiricalstudies,this paper gave a systematic analysis of the status of the online banking athome and abroad, summed up the many problems existing in China’s online bankingand put forward appropriate policy recommendations. This article is divided into fiveparts.The first part of the research analyzes background and significance of thepaper,describes the researches of domestic and foreign scholars on the online banking,sums up the ideas of this study and the innovation of the paper and weaknesses.The second section describes the concepts, advantages and scope of business ofonline banking. The concept of online banking is divided into broad and narrow,andthis paper accepts the narrow concept.The advantages of online banking that includelow-cost, high-profit, flexible space, providing personalized service, etc. Onlinebanking business scope covers three categories that information services,individualcustomers business and corporate business.The third section sets out the situation and strategy of Internet banking at homeand abroad. First, it analyzes the modern development of Europe, Japan, Korea and other online banking. Secondly, we explore development process, characteristics,services,customer’s choice of online banking,coverage,etc. Thirdly, it summarizes thestrategies employed in the development process of online banking in the Westerncountries, such as the expansion of the traditional business on the Internet and servicesrange, mergers and acquisitions. Finally, on the basis of the above analysis, it sums upthe worth experience for China’s online banking, it includes that a combination modelof traditional banking and online banking continues to be the mainstream ofdevelopment, online banking mergers and acquisitions and cooperation are importantways of its development, small and medium-sized banks should pay more attention tothe characteristics of services,diversity of service products.The fourth part presents the main problems in the development process of onlinebanking. Including the lack of relevant laws for online banking, technical risk andcredit risk issues, special regulatory issues due to the complexity of Internettechnology and cross-regional business.The fifth part gives the policy recommendations to address these issues. The first,we should improve the relevant laws and regulations, especially strengthen theprotection of the interests of customers.The second, by developing computertechnology, clearing responsibility of China’s e-currency online payment risk andimproving bank credit system, we should improve the security of online banking.Thethird,we should improve the online banking laws of market access and exit,enhanceinternational regulatory cooperation and improve the quality of supervisors andcapacity,etc.The last,we should provide customer-centric online banking services,adoptdifferent pricing strategies for different customers and enhance the innovative capacityof the online banking.
