With the development of the service industry, capital, technology-intensivefeatures even more significantly, the service industry gradually becomes the dominantindustry in economy development, the level of developments of service industry hasbecome a significant symbol to for measuring activity and even the whole country’smodernization, informatization level and international competitiveness. On one hand,the upgrade of advanced manufacturing can’t come true without the support of themodern service industry. On the other hand, promoting domestic demand moreeffective is also inseparable from the prosperity of the modern service industry.However, from the perspective of service industry competitiveness and agglomerationlevel, there are still many problems in Chinese modern service industry, such as lowlevel of concentration, loose service industry structure and so on. In the situation thatChina will open up further, many problems such as the inefficient in core process ofservice industry, lack of competitiveness in service sector has become an indisputablefact.In this background, this article has combed relevant literature and theory of theagglomeration of modern service industry, and summarized the empirical study of themodern service industry, comparison study between service industry and manufacture,and also the influencing factor study of modern service industry concentration, in orderto find the weaknesses of modern service industry concentration, which includes thechoice of indicator, the lack of data, and long-term tracking. After calculating theSpace Gini Coeffcient of Chinese modern service industry from2001-2009, theHerfindahl Coefficient and the EG Index of Chinese modern service industry from2006-2009, this paper find that, the agglomeration level of Chinese modern serviceindustry is improving overall. At the same time, in the view of the trend and structureof agglomeration, there are obvious difference between producer service industry, consumer service industry and social service industry. Producer service industry alldisplay spatial concentrated, and partly industry concentrated, which indicate that theproducer service industry is serving manufacture better. While most of the consumerservice industries and social service industries are widely distributed, with only a fewtend to concentrating together, which is also consistent with the characteristic thatconsumer service and social service should stay near from the final consumer and beconsumed spatial equally. Finally this article summarized the influencing factor ofagglomeration of modern service industry.Based on the current level of modern service industry agglomeration andclustering structure got from estimation, we proposed the following suggestions: First,since the aggregation level of producer services in China is still low, even lower thansome of the social services, the government should focus on promoting theoptimization of the spatial distribution of the producer services, thereby contributing tothe upgrading of industrial structure of the manufacturing sector. Secondly, to boostdomestic demand, we should promote the uniform distribution of consumer services,as so to make a simpler and faster linkage between consumption and production, whichcan fulfill the consumer demand by the manufacturing industry chain. Thirdly, forsome social services which are over gathering, we should give enough emphasis andundergo policy regulation.
