Product life cycle assessment is the effective mean to detect environmental performanceand economic performances of corporate, and the important role in the promotion ofsustainable development for business and society. Based on substance flow and energy flowtheory, to carry out the product whole life cycle assessment from the perspective ofenvironmental impact potential and economic sustainability. Build the product life cycleassessment system from the dimensions of environment and economic, with concreteexamples, modeled the life cycle stages functional structure of photocopier by IDEF0.Received the input and output inventory results of photocopier with the help of GaBi,analyzed product’s environmental indicators and economic indicators, and put forward themeasures for the improvement of product about environment and economic effectivenessbased on the results of assessment. Main contents as follows:1. Overview of the theory of SFA/MFA, energy flow and life cycle assessment. In threeaspects of the product life cycle assessment,analysis method, as well as domestic researchresults, to research the basic theory of product life cycle assessment. Focuses on the thedifference between SFA and MFA, the conversion of emergy and calculation method, LCAevaluation system and standards, comprehensive analysis the theoretical basis of paperscombined with the research situation.2. Divided the product life cycle assessment index system into substance flow indicatorsand energy flow indicators, selected the five environmental factors as indicators ofenvironmental dimensions, and the five economic factors as indicators of economicdimensions, according to ISO life cycle assessment framework to set product life cycle impactassessment model, used of AHP to determine the weight of environmental impact indicators,offered the interpretation path of assessment results.3. Formed the product life cycle architecture from three aspact about the productcomposition analysis, life cycle system modules build and the assessment of modules. Basedon the principle of the product life cycle stages, a case study of photocopier used of IDEF0and systems structure modeling methods to analyze and build the composition and function ofthe manufacturing-using-discarding-recycling system of photocopier.4. Evaluated environmental impact potential value and economic sustainability of thewhole life cycle of photocopier, by GaBi database obtained using stage of photocopier is themost potential value, accounted 63.45% for the overall, resources consumption is the greatestcontribution for the overall 96.36%. The results of economic indicators pointed out that thephotocopier had low rates of conomic contribution, attached to the developed economysystem of consumer-based, and had poor sustainability of process.
