| Urbanization is the inevitable trend and objective law of social development. It isalso the only way to the modern for every country. Now China has become the world’ssecond largest economy, and it’s also the largest developing country with the mostpopulation in the world. Therefore the urbanization in China has a very importantimpact on world’s urbanization process. Urbanization is not only the result of themodernization and the development of socialist market economy, but also an importantchannel for expanding domestic demand and the transfer of surplus labor. Sopromoting the urbanization healthily and harmoniously will play a very important rolein the development of China. In order to achieve urbanization, we should choose theright route. That’s to say, we need to decide which is more important, the large cities, the medium-sized cities or the small towns. There is not a final answer to the problemin the theoretical circle and our government also attaches great importance. On theother hand, with the continuous development of urbanization, the traffic congestionand the environmental problem in big cities have become worse. At the same time, thelow-quality problems of small towns began to show. In order to solve these problemsand promote the development of China’s urbanization, we must choose the right routeof urbanization.Location theory, Dual economic structure theory, Population migration theory andNon-equilibrium growth theory are the theories about urbanization. These theoriesexplain the motive power and other issues of urbanization from different angles. As forthe route of urbanization in China, there are four main views: the development of largecities to promote the urbanization; the development of medium-sized cities to promotethe urbanization; the development of small towns to promote the urbanization and thelarge, medium-sized and small cities to coordinate the development of urbanizationroute.Through the urbanization process of the world as a whole, we can see that thereare some certain regularities: the urbanization process presents a certain stage;industrialization and urbanization are the mutual promotion and mutual influence;there are regional differences in the urbanization process in different countries. Thenwe research and analyze the urbanization process in some developed and developing countries with the historical analysis method. It shows that in the selection of theurbanization route we should first take the practical situation into consideration, andthen choose the right route. This route should be on the basis of market regulation withthe proper intervention from the government. And the government should make someplanning scheme to make sure that the development of the urbanization is in the levelof industrialization and economic development, neither ahead nor lagging behind.Though it is necessary to learn the experience from other countries, based on nationalconditions is more important. So the paper analyzes the current stage of urbanizationstatus and problems. We make in-depth discussion and analysis on the “urban diseaseâ€in big cities and the problem that too much emphasis is put on the quantity not qualityon the small towns. Finally, on the basis of the analysis above, we have a conclusion that to promotethe development of China’s urbanization, we should not let the big cities developwithout restriction or planning, nor should continue to choose the development ofsmall towns as the main motive force in the urbanization. We should choose topromote the medium-sized cities as the motive force. The paper is able to fully analyze and learn from other countries, then put forwarda different advice on the route of urbanization from the main views according to thelatest situation. That is the innovation of the paper. |
