It has become one of the major problems constraining the large-scaled development of wind-energy industry that high-level noise caused by upsizing of wind turbines has rather big impact on surrounded environment. Therefore, the noise reduction of wind turbines is essential, starting from sound locating and targeted denoise in actual practice. Researches on noise source locating of wind turbines have been conducted in western countries, but there has not been any similar study in China. This experimental investigation analyzed and improved the sound locating method of beamforming algorithm, conducted simulation orientation based on the technology of microphone array. After the numerical simulation of the algorithm by the use of Mat lab Software, confirmatory test of point source in anechoic chamber was conducted, by using MPA416microphones of BSWA Company and the data acquisition system of National Instruments Company. The sound pressure data of the array was collected and stored by acoustic measurement model of Labview Platform. On the basis of these Independently developed noise locating software, another test of circular microphone array on a1.5MW wind turbine was conducted in a wind farm in Ningxia Province. The test data was collected and analyzed in various working conditions via projection locating principle. It is shows that the major noise source of the wind turbine is the aerodynamic noise at the trailing edge of the blade.Due to the complexity of the working condition of wind turbines, in order to simulate the fast changes of angle of attack and waving and swing movements caused by disturbance of wind turbine blades, sound locating test was conducted in anechoic chamber on airfoil model S809and NACA0012, which were installed on the independently designed device which could perform compound movements of pitching and floating. Analysis on the problems appeared in experiments was also conducted and related solutions were given.
