Because of its ability on improving wireless communication system’s channel capacity and bit error performance, MIMO technology has gained a wide attention. However, the increase of antenna’s number will lead to the growth of the cost of radio frequency link and complexity of coding and decoding. Therefore, in order to reduce the cost of MIMO system and its complexity, the antenna selection technology is used. The antenna selection technology contains variety of types and implementations, this thesis mainly focuses on transmitting antenna selection technology based on spatial multiplexing system, and its application in fractionated satellite system. After learning the characteristics of spatial multiplexing system, as well as merits and faults of current algorithms, this thesis raises up a new algorithm called transmitting antenna selection algorithm based on Kronecker model and waterfilling power distribution, using a method of combining transmitting antenna selection and power distribution scheme together. Simulation results show that compared to current algorithms, the new algorithm performs better in improving system capacity and bit error performance. Futhermore, this thesis also works on the new algorithm’s application in satellite communication system. Through designing and simulating a complete fractionated satellite system, the influence of the new algorithm on system performance is studied. The main contributions and innovations of this thesis are:1. For the transmitting antenna selection technology in spatial multiplexing system, this thesis has raised up a new algorithm called transmitting antenna selection algorithm based on Kronecker model and waterfilling power distribution. By using the Kronecker model under a correlative channel, it combines waterfilling power distribution in the transmitting end and transmitting antenna selection together. This algorithm has solved the problem of choosing the strategy of transmitting antenna selection in spatial multiplexing system, when fully considering the channel correlativity. Simulation results show that it can improve system capacity and bit error performance, and performs better when compared to current algorithms.2. For the application of MIMO and antenna selection technology in satellite communication, this thesis has raised up a fractionated satellite system. Based on the concepts of micro-satellites and fractionated networking, the satellite system consists of fractionated satellite cluster, data relay satellite system and ground stations. System performance is studied by simulation results.3. Based on the fractionated satellite system, this thesis has raised up a fractionated satellite system based on transmitting antenna selection technology for spatial multiplexing system. In order to study the influences of MIMO and antenna selection technology on system performance, it implements MIMO and corresponding antenna selection technology in physical layer, as well as the original parts. Each part of the system is designed and simulated, and the analysis of simulation results shows that transmitting antenna selection technology in spatial multiplexing system can improve system’s channel capacity and bit error performance.
