Tolerance is closely related to product function, quality and cost. The computer aided tolerance analysis technique is an important part of computer integrated manufacturing system, but the current computer aided tolerance analysis technique significantly lagged behind the computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing restricting the development of computer integrated manufacturing technology. Especially in the passenger car industry, the advanced and reasonable computer-aided tolerance analysis technique is desperately needed. At present, computer aided tolerance analysis technique exists three main issues. The first, there are some difficulties in the integration of tolerance modeling method and CAD/CAM system. The second, the precision of the tolerance analysis method should be improved so as to reduce the error between the tolerance analysis result and the actual situation. The third, three dimensional tolerance analysis ability is insufficient and needs more effort.This paper focuses on the main issues of computer aided tolerance analysis technique at the present stage, puts forward the tolerance analysis method based on datum flow chain and robot kinematics. The paper’s main works are as follows:(1) Summarizing the content, the research status at home and abroad of the computer aided tolerance design.(2) Putting forward an assembly modeling method for tolerance analysis, which is named assembly modeling based on datum flow chain.(3) Introducing the robot kinematics to the tolerance information modeling.(4) Explaining the theoretical foundation, the basic idea and application fields of the Monte Carlo simulation method, and then studied the basic flow of the Monte Carlo simulation method for tolerance analysis.(5) Taking tolerance analysis for a passenger car ignition lock as an case study to verify the tolerance analysis method proposed in this paper.
