Mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET) is a combination of network technology and communication technology, with the rapid development of the two technologies recently, MANET research becomes a major concern. The nodes in MANET don’t need to rely on the existing communication network infrastructure. The MANET has a broad application prospect in military, disaster reconstruction, mobile office environment etc.At present, the research of the opportunistic routing protocol has been a hot issue in the field of MANET research. As the opportunistic routing does not pre-determine the forwarding path, it chooses the next-hop forwarding node dynamically for the packets. As a result, it can adapt to the frequently changed network environment better than the traditional ones. But opportunistic routing does not have a good performance in the energy-limited environment, because the opportunistic routing does not consider the energy factor in its forwarding strategy. Therefore it is very important to reduce the energy consumption and improve the lifetime of the opportunistic routing.The main research content of the article is around the energy-consumption issues of the opportunistic routing. Firstly, as the large energy consumption in opportunistic routing and even the forwarding strategy neglects the energy factor, a new routing forwarding strategy called EV_ETX has been put forward which takes the energy consumption into consideration. It can help set the priority of the nodes in the candidate set by the designed cost function. Secondly, the energy consumption model has been optimized after deeply research on it. The time mechanism of the candidates can make the node stay in a state of low energy consumption, so that it can achieve the goal of energy saving. Finally, the optimization has been made to implement ExOR protocol with the combination of integrated EV_ETX strategy and the time mechanism. The simulation results got from OPNET Modeler platform show that the improved protocol EV_ExOR has made some improvements on the key network performance; the research has a certain practical and application value.
