With the development of wireless network, the demand of users on the capacity and speed ofnetwork is higher. Heterogeneous network, meaning deploying femtocells in current network, cansatisfy the users’ growing communication needs. But, there is a lot of interference in the networkafter introducing femtocells. This thesis focuses on the research of cognitive interferencemanagement scheme to mitigate the downlink interference in heterogeneous network, including theinterference received by macrocell user and femtocell user.Cognitive radio can be applied to interference management in heterogeneous network. Theanalysis of cognitive interference management schemes based on channel reuse and opportunisticselection is made. The ideas and steps of the two cognitive interference management schemes areexplained in detail. It is proved that the two congtive interference management schemes bothimprove the system performance greatly even if many femtocells are deployed in a macrocell. Thus,the reliability of heterogeneous network is ensured. Besides, a comparison between the twocognitive interference management schemes is made. According to the user’s performance and timecomplexity of the scheme, the conclusion we obtained is that interference management schemebased on channel reuse is more suitable for macrocell user and the other fits for femtocell userbetter.
