With the rapid and steady development of China’s economic, the car has become the essential transport for our lives in recent years. However, in peace with the increasing number of cars, traffic accidents rise sharply. Driver’s drowsiness is one of the main factors causing traffic accidents. Therefore, it’s extremely important to reduce traffic accidents and protect lives by means of monitoring and preventing fatigue drive.Considering advantages and disadvantages of various fatigue detection technologies, we put forward the design principles and framework from the user experience. We propose a fatigue detection method, through information fusion, combine fatigue characteristics of eye movement and steering wheel rotation.Based on the design framework, we developed a prototype system: FatigueMonitor. FatigueMonitor is composed of control interface, pre-set interface, fatigue monitoring module and warning module. Control interface is used to simulate human-computer interaction interface; pre-set interface’s function is to complete the calibration of eye tracking and steering wheel; fatigue monitoring module’s effect is evaluating driver’s degree of fatigue in real time; warning module is used to transmit waning information to the driver. At last, we evaluate the reliability of the system. Through subjective fatigue evaluation questionnaire, PVT test and pulse test, we test volunteers’mental state. According the result of test, we divide the volunteers into two groups, one is normal and another is fatigue. The two groups respectively complete the simulation driving test in the driving platform, in this process, FatigueMonitor monitor the volunteer’s status in real time. Finally the results of experiments show that:FatigueMonitor can relatively reliably detect driver’s drowsiness.
