Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology got great attention from it was put forward, many meaningful applications based on this technology are under studying. For instance, UWB Radar for Human Life Detection is a promising usage, which is considered as an effective life detection machine, owing to its lots of advantages such as high location accuracy, low complexity of machines, low power consumption. The radar based on this technology is the focus of this paper.Firstly, the key mechanism and the system structure of UWB Life-Detection Radar are presented, then, all modules’functions and the design of hardware circuit of the radar are described in detail, what’s more, the software design of the control module and data processing module included. By using the method of delay time-sweeping, the new radar succeed in object locating and targets tracking, the same time, the new radar has a great improvement in portability. At last, a new signal processing method of UWB life detection is proposed to avoid the loss of useful information, increase the frequency components of human life information and inhibit the short time-existing noise, succeed in extracting respiration and heart beat signal, which is named Derived Short Time Fourier Transform. Compared with the tradition ones, the new signal processing method has obvious advantages.This paper presents a new design scheme of portable UWB life detection radar and a new signal processing method which can achieve the life information accurately, and the results demonstrate the paper also has great regarding value to the research of UWB life detection radar.
