Wireless sensor networks is a new information access platform. It is aself-organizing network and composed of a large amount of low-power, low-cost sensornodes, which are deployed in the monitored area. Sensed data is collected at all or someof the sensor nodes and forward to a central node, called base station, possibly overmultiple hops.Data collection is the main application of wireless sensor networks, sodata collection is the research focus in wireless sensor networks technologies. However, the current research in data collection is focused on routing protocols, energymanagement, etc. The research in fair data collection is few and the progress is slow.Fairness is critical to achieve its monitoring role, so the research in fair data collection isa key issue in current data collection work.Congestion in wireless sensor networks will lead to the problem that bandwidthallocation is unfair, so efficient congestion control mechanism and method to achievefairness are the key to solve the fairness problem. This paper presents a rate control andfairness scheme in tree-based network. It can solve the problems that detect congestionslowly and slow convergence of rate. It takes probability selection method to achievefairness. To solve the defects of proposed congestion detection ever, we propose a quickcongestion detection method, which combine queue length with traffic changes of anode. This method can effectively reduce the reaction time of congestion. To solve theslow convergence of rate in ease congestion, we propose a solution that can make therate converge quickly to a stable state. The improved scheme achieves fairness throughprobability selection.Through simulation experiments to prove the improved scheme can detectcongestion quickly and make the rate fast convergence, and also it can achieve thedesign goals of fairness and improve network throughput, reduce end to end datatransmission delay. We also have done research in energy distribution, and present afeasible method of non-uniform energy distribution, which can maximize wirelesssensor networks utilization.
