As one of the important research realms in computer vision, License Plate Recognition(LPR) has extensive application value in intelligent surveillance and images content retrieval which are both based on image recognition. With the development of DSP processors, the combination of LPR technology and embedded DSP technology has further explored the application market and provided the feasibility of high performance intelligent applications.The main purpose of the thesis is to build a video capture system based on a DSP platform, in order to provide support for the subsequent development of algorithms. At the same time, the LPR algorithm was transplanted to the DSP platform and an intelligent system was implemented. The steps included in the design are building the embedded DSP platform, transplantation and optimization of the LPR algorithm and the detailed analysis from tests.After the verification of the processing results, the LPR system based on DM6437can satisfy the practical application requirements regarding the successful rate of target location, recognition and the time consumed. Therefore, the thesis implemented a LPR system with good practical value and brilliant application prospect.
