As a class of nonbinary maximum distance separable codes, the family of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes has been widely used in modern digital communication systems and data storage devices for it powerful performs. Now mainly used is hard decision decoding (HDD) algorithms. Thought HDD is much simpler, it cannot behave as good as soft-decision decoding algorithms (SDD). However, the lack of an effective soft decision decoding algorithm will certainly baffle their applications in future communication systems.Based on the current situation,this paper dedicate to research RS decoding method with low complexity. Firstly, this paper introduce the development process of error control coding. Then describle the development status of RS soft-decoding algorithm and current mainstream of the RS algorithm. According to the delete coding in soft-decoding algorithm, describle its traditional decoding algorithm and decoding circuit for details. Based on this, propose an improved Erase coding algorithm and give the way to achieve it by very large scale integrated circuit (VLSI). Synthesis results show that the circuit of improved algorithm can get reduce in both area and power apparently compared to the traditional circuit.Simultaneity, combaining Chase algorithm and Erase decoding algorithm, classifying the information received according to the reliability and dealing separately with different class, this paper propose a modified Chase-Erase algorithm. The analysis of the simulation results of several RS code shows that the modified Chase-Erase algorithm can enhance the decoding performance of Chase algorithm effectively. By applying the modified circuit architecture proposed before,the algorithm makes progress in reducing circuit complexity and improving the decoding performance.In the last, a coding test system with graphical user interface is explaned which contribute to performance comparison between Error-correcting with different parameters.It can reduce the labor intensity of researchers and make sense in project development.
